More Garbage...

Garbage are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their fifth studio album. The as-yet untitled album is being recorded in a basement in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, the first to be recorded outside of Madison, Wisconsin. Garbage, who are producing the album themselves, are eying a Spring 2012 release date for the project.

“Years-worth of pent-up music came out in some bizarre ways- bleary cell phone memos became real songs, conversations turned into lyrics, and new computer gizmos inspired wicked tangents,” said the members of Garbage. “Ghosts came in, had their say. Everyone brought ideas, and everyone fought their corner.  At the end of the day it all gets shoved through the four-way brain filter that is Garbage and it ends up sounding like nobody else.  Red feathers and black tar.”

They add, “We are making a record filled with the music we love to hear. The new songs have been inspired more by what we haven’t been hearing rather than by what we have.”

Here is the last we heard from the group - a fantastic track that didnt do much in the charts. Bring on the comeback!

Update:

Working titles of 12 new songs have been announced: "Time Will Destroy Everything", "Blood For Poppies", "Automatic Systematic Habit", "Control", "Lies, Lies, Lies", "Sugar", "Not Your Kind Of People", "T.R.O.U.B.L.E", "Felt", "Big Brite World", "Alone" and "Animal". 24 songs in total have been recorded.

The group has on several occasions described the sound of the album as "abrasive", featuring "extreme noise", with singer Shirley Manson going so far as to attest, "All traditional instruments are banned. Instead, one is only allowed to make abstract noise."
The band has announced that they will release a cover version of an as-yet-unannounced song later this month. "This track has nothing to do with our new record and will not be included. It is not a single. It is simply a song that happens to be a cover version that you will hear in a matter of weeks, if you care to." The band also clarified that their forthcoming 12-track album would be mixed and mastered by October 17, while another 12 songs will be finalized by the end of the year and will be released as "b-sides, extra tracks and maybe one might even come your way simply as a Christmas present from Garbage as a thank you to you all for sticking around."

I often think the rot set in for Garbage after "The World Is Not Enough" - let's hope they succeed in this comeback! Jx

I agree - which I why I felt that "Tell Me Where It Hurts" was a wonderful return to form. Hopefully they will release a good record (although I am not so sure about the updated info on the album)....
