Time seems right for her to do what she wants (those Garibay EP´s) and I think this christmas album might be a smart move. The girls who loved her back in the 80s are all grown up now and might not buy, say,Kiss Me Once - but might be tempted to buy a christmas album by their teen fave. Abbey Road did pretty well - sadly when artists reach "a certain age" they are "supposed" to revisit their classics and albums of duets, covers and christmas songs. I'm even more shocked than you are my dear - but that song has been stuck in my head for a couple of weeks. As for Olivia - that massacre of "Magic" is well below her standards (and that daughter of hers looks like a creepy drag queen with less vocal talents than, well, just about anyone!).

I will hear no bad words about Miss Jackson - I am thrilled she's back and I can't wait for the new album. I much prefer the original version of "No Sleep" though (without the bloody rap). I actually love the song, so laid back and funky...

I know you don't really care for Lady Lana, but along with the upcoming Janet album I am very, very excited about Lana´s new effort (out next month). And that video is just fabulous!

I must say I am rather surprised you liked the Gente De Zona number - I have always been a sucker for this sound (and yes, I also thought that Marc Anthony was a warning sign...).

I do love me some Max Barskih, yes ;) As for the Maitre Gims song, perhaps it reminds you of Indila? Such a massive list. No wonder it has tak...Heavens! Such a massive list. No wonder it has taken me a while to get through it - but I have, so let's go on with the show! You already know how much I adore the Nervo-Kylie-Jake-Nile collaboration. But what of the rest?

As is my wont, in a list this varied there will inevitably be some I think are stinkers. That thing by Shaggy (oh, gawd, is he still going?), Mohombi, Faydee & Costi is just a car crash of a record. One of them can sing, but it's certainly not Shaggy. And where is Scooby-Doo? Dave Audé ft Olivia Newton-John & Chloe Lattanzi - tacky, tacky, tacky... Livvy sounds dreadful, her daughter thinks she's Miss Aguilera and isn't even that good. Even Mr Audé can't save it. As for the hideous failed-plastic-surgery-public-warning-video, it's remarkable that even though she can't move her face much any more, ONJ looks miles better than the trout-child!

Speaking of plastic surgery, Miss Janet Jackson. As one wise commenter said about this whispering effort: "A song would have been nice". First Ladies of Disco? One might have thought that a combination of Evelyn 'Champagne" King, Linda Clifford and Martha Wash might have been a bit more, well, ermm, interesting? Gay video or no gay video, this dirge is a complete waste of three sublime talents. And on the subjects of "sublime" and "waste", how dare that little scrote with the blocked-up nose even dare to cover "Show Me Love"? Aaaargh!

I have never understood the appeal of Foxes - channelling her very best "Rachel Sweet" look for this video - it's almost as if the 80s never happened, and Fleetwood Mac were the only yardstick for music. What's "fresh" about this song? As for Lost Frequencies - something and nothing really. Sandra Lyng? Ditto.

Banks - nice voice, nice attitude, the song's OK, in a sort of Cranberries-without-the-oomph way. Miss Anna Naklab could do with some tips on "oomph", too. Her song sounds like it's destined for some commercial, possibly for tampons or suchlike.

Another Mika track, so soon? It's OK, if a bit characterless. If it had a bit of a remix, it could be a Simply Red B-side. Hmmmm. Miss Del Rey's song is OK too, but, as you are aware, she's not really "my cup of tea". Possibly because I don't smoke drugs.

Disconcertingly, Dionisi Sxoinas looks just like our (dodgy) upstairs neighbour; and his coterie of semi-clad extras in that video a) can't dance, and b) don't look convincingly as if they are actually enjoying themselves. The song is jolly enough, though (and would be even better if I were listening to it in some actual sun as opposed to the cold and gloom of this week's weather). Speaking of jolly - I thought "featuring Marc Anthony" was a warning, but Gente de Zona's calypso number made me smile, and dream of holidays... Zedd's overblown effort at a "dance anthem" just annoyed me, however.

That effort by your fave Max Barksih isn't bad at all (although I think Mr Ricky Martin might sue, as I reckon it sounds like it's one of his choons...) And Maitre Gims' chanson is rather good. It reminds me of something else, but I can't think what...

"I like sticky pearls." Don't we all, Miss Luzon? Superb video-erotica, and she just about manages to save the song from being yet-another-R'nB-sassy-chant (although as always, it would be better without that bloody rapper)...

What this world really needs is some F.U.N! And what other group than The Young Professionals would dream of doing an "ABBA-meets-DEVO" cover of S.O.S? Pure joy!

However, there is, as ever, one winner - and thank heavens for Xelle! Even Perez Hilton said their music is "an effing good time." Love, love, love it!

An exhausting, but fun, journey as ever. I'm so pleased your "blogging mojo" is (slowly) coming back - keep up the great work, sweetie!

JxJonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15501010362663971583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-82969935538578628822015-08-06T22:32:11.935+00:002015-08-06T22:32:11.935+00:00I am so pleased you're back in circulation, my...I am so pleased you're back in circulation, my sweet - and good to have your comments! Miss Balan does fancy herself as quite the goddess, it seems...

I have to agree about the Hurts song - I want to like it and there are some good elements in it but I still can't get on board. As for Madonna, she can never do anything wrong it seems in my book. While it is most certainly not one of her best I find it quite fun and catchy.

As for Tooji, I think the song and video is entertaining in a bit of a "B-movie" sort of way. The Spector song surprised me too, my love for Britpop is generally rather limited.
Oh, and I believe that Mika does actually sing "gay guys" in one of the verses...

The Years & Years album is rather good, as I expected. They are no Dame Lana but I really like them. Feder's song is all sorts of fabulous, me thinks - and yes, Miss Murphy is always amazing (love her new album).

Aaaah, Alcazar! I recently watched an hour long outdoors concert from Sweden where they did one huge salute to the beauty that is disco, both with their own songs and covers. They rarely disappoint. As for Violet Chachki, that song is one of my faves from this selection - and I am convinced that the video is made from outtakes from Bewitched ;)

I'm on my way over to the Razzle Dazzle as soon as I can - it has indeed been a while.Barbarella's Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13412715855179155079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-75162607697466869382015-07-28T19:43:42.563+00:002015-07-28T19:43:42.563+00:00PS You haven't visited little ol' moi for ...PS You haven't visited little ol' moi for a while - I even did a "newer music" round-up blog myself recently... He's popped up again! It's like spotti...Oh! He's popped up again! It's like spotting the Loch Ness Monster, honestly...

So, the reviews...

Let's get the "meh" tracks out of the way first. Miss Andreea Balan sounds like a million other "vague-voiced, autotuned-to-death" wannabee singers out there; not worth the effort. Similarly Miss Brezhneva - despite the "cute boy video", I am not sure why she bothered; she might as well have phoned the vocals in.

I tried desperately to like the Hurts' new one, but despite several attempts, I really don't. And I was never hugely fond of "Johnny & Mary" when Robert Palmer did the original, but Mr Ferry really shouldn't have done this dreary "whispering" version of it.

Miss Fame has the right attitude, the right look, and the lyrics and "industrial" sounds could have made a great song; shame then that is really isn't one. And I am so so sorry Madge, but I am afraid "Bitch I'm Madonna" is like fingernails down a blackboard...

Of the rest?

I am in two minds about Tooji's "The Father Project". The video is, of course, a fantastic bit of "art-porn", and the anti-religious message is right up my street. The song? It may take a few more listens; or then again, maybe not. Speaking of totty - never having been much of a Brit-indie-pop fanboy, I surprised myself how much I liked that Spector number. It helps somewhat that there was a cute boy-bum in the video, no doubt :-) And completing a triumvirate of competing gay-cutie-ness, there's Cassandre; nice video, somewhat OTT (typically French) power-ballad.

I could have sworn Mika was singing "where have all the GAY guys gone", which I suppose might have been appropriate, I suppose. A pleasant enough, if somewhat unmemorable song. Bless 'im. Similarly lightweight, Years and Years and Years and Years [ad infinitum] are THE band of the moment, of course. However I think of them as the "Lana del Rey of the boy-band world". Or maybe "Marmite"?

Feder's "Goodbye" is a weird thingy, isn't it? Takes me back (in a way) to the trippy type of music around at the end of the 60s, via the acid house "chillout zone" of the 90s. Rather fab, actually! And, of course, Miss Róisín Murphy can do no wrong in my (evil) eyes. Her videos are art-forms in their own right.

Thank heavens for Alcazar! Guaranteed to bring a smile to my face, every time... And you are already more than well aware that Uriel Yukutiel always has the same effect. The gorgeous Kazaky, too, never fail to - ahem - "perk" me up; I love this gayer-than-gay video, too.

However, if there has to be a winner... then it has to be Miss Violet Chachki, whose song and video (despite fleeting comparisons to Miss Fame) I think are bloody brilliant! "Bettie", we love you!

An excellently eclectic playlist, as always.

Are you ever going to reappear more than once every few months, my dear..?

JxJonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15501010362663971583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-40758567935564696922015-06-01T08:46:59.781+00:002015-06-01T08:46:59.781+00:00Thank you :) Yes I have, it's just very time c...Thank you :) Yes I have, it's just very time consuming - but I hope to be able to make the blog at least a little bit more active this summer..Barbarella's Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13412715855179155079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-1213418729157980932015-06-01T08:45:51.448+00:002015-06-01T08:45:51.448+00:00Well, it is 33 CD's (an not just two or three ...Well, it is 33 CD's (an not just two or three tracks each), so even though it is expensive I think it's not unreasonable.

That said, I believe that the RRP is around 98 pounds, so I'm pretty sure that the Amazon price will drop a bit before the box comes out.Barbarella's Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13412715855179155079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-39186173914568548122015-06-01T03:03:14.013+00:002015-06-01T03:03:14.013+00:00Welcome back!!! The Spagna song came completely out of the blue, and so did her brand new head! I really like Brandon Flowers and I particularly like this new track (complete with a Neil Tennant cameo) - I need to order the album. And speaking of ordering, I am currently waiting for the new Will Young and Roisin Murphy albums to arrive in the mail. I am particularly excited to hear the Roisin album, her track here is probably my favorite (and I love the video).

Looking forward to your next selection!Barbarella's Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13412715855179155079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1704710091923437850.post-77209711049335423572015-05-31T12:40:54.159+00:002015-05-31T12:40:54.159+00:00Whoo-hoo! Despite the lack of &qu...Whoo-hoo! Another post...

Despite the lack of "in-between" activity, I am always full of expectation when I meander through one of your selections of new musical experiences. So let's get busy!

First up, by now the dust should have well-and-truly settled over Eurovision 2015, and you already know how much we liked Miss Stamenov, Mr Zelmerlow and the Il Volo boys (we thought Aminata was truly awful, however). Moving swiftly on...

I cannot comment on the Darin number, as the "content is blocked in my country on copyright grounds". And Madonna should shoot Mr Dottley for pissing all over her classic "Crazy for You" with his utterly horrid karaoke vocals.

The Kygo/Conrad Sewell started off like a junior Will Young, I thought - it's a nice enough track for a chill-out/background track, but I can't say I would even recognise it if it was on the radio; it is a bit ephemeral. Far, far better in the "ambient dance" stakes is that rather good Major Lazer and DJ Snake number - loved the video, too.

Speaking of Will Young (merely the first of several left-field "comeback" artistes in the list, I note) - I think "Like A River" is a superb song, and that video is a masterpiece. We love Willy! And speaking of comebacks - albeit in her case it's a lot longer gap between singles - Miss Imbruglia's "Instant Crush" is very easy on the ear, if a little reminiscent of her only big hit "Torn"...

My own "instant crush" Mika's song is very catchy-in-a-Eurovision-sort-of-way; the record's production, is, however, a little understated and could have done with a bit more "oomph" to make it a real hit. Mr Moroder's collaboration with Sia is creditable (as one would expect), but not the best. I like Rozalla for her one hit, but really, this attempt at a "comeback" should have been so much better - she had a good voice, what happened?

Blondes. Miss Meister has produced (a little early in the season) one of those "I got pissed and danced to this in Magaluf" novelty holiday numbers that bizarrely tend to hit the charts around September. Mr Idol does exactly what Mr Idol always does, no matter the decade. And Paris Hilton, ffs? 'Tis amazing what autotune can do with that tinny trashcan of a voice. She ain't Christina Aguilera. She's not even Sam Fox! RuPaul's song went in one ear and out of the other. And Miss Loboda's effort is OK, but a bit "Eurodance-by-numbers".

Bloody hell! Spagna? With what appears to be a completely new head? I always loved the lady (camp as tits, dear!), and the video lives up to expectations, but the song itself leaves a lot to be desired. Speaking of "camp as tits", Mr Somerville's latest lovely Disco number would be perfect for a hot summer's day, if ever summer would start here in the UK! By the way, Jimmy should sue Mr Flowers for nicking "Smalltown Boy" for his new single, especially when he's ruined it by adding his "Chris-de-Burgh-esque" vocals all over it.

And so to the "top tracks" in this selection. Röyksopp sinply reek "class", and the addition of the vocalist from The Irrepressibles just makes it even more moody and lovely than ever. Vying for the peak position in my vote is Therese and her "Missing Disco" - utterly fabulous, and right up my street! More than a touch of the likes of "Hypnotic Tango" going on there, too...

But the winner (and you could have predicted it, knowing my love for the lady) is of course Miss Roisin Murphy and her "Dusty-on-acid" slice of magnificence "Exploitation". Wow. It's all I can say, really.

Keep 'em coming, darling! They are indeed the new "warehouse" videos (along with the "let's just stumble on random beaches" and "lets get guns, run around in our bikinis and rob a store or two") videos.

Midnight Boy? The first thing that came to mind was indeed that particular Dead Or Alive track, along with the backing track from "Always On My Mind" by Pet Shop Boys. Dinah Nah was a lovely surprise though - I had previously only heard "I Am Dinah Nah" before. Fun track.

I somewhat agree with the Kwabs song - I didn't even care for it at first, but the all of a sudden it became stuck in my head (on loop). Works best without the video though...

The Dave Audé track would probably have worked even better with the original vocals, but it still has that Audé magic. As for Stromae, I'm not crazy about the song but I love the video - no human contact necessary any more, we all stroll to our deaths blinded by social media that eventually eats us all up.

I actually love the Mika song - didn't really expect to but it won me over. As for Madonna, what can I say? Yet another reason for why she will always remain my queen! And yes, her vocals on this one are sublime.

And finally, The Young Professionals. I love that song, I love the video, I love them!

Finally, thank you for your kind comments. I hope to be able to start blogging on regular basis again, but like I said before work is taking up a lot of my time. We will see - in any case, I will at least continue to post my Tracks blogs.Barbarella's Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13412715855179155079noreply@blogger.com
