SOTD...

It's Monday - but it is almost Easter, so this will be a very short work week! So why not a perky little number to kick things off?

Enter the lovely Rachel Sweet. Who, you may ask? Well, Miss Sweet released four studio albums between 1978 and 1982 to limited success, before deciding to quit the music business. She did however briefly return to record the theme song for the John Waters film Hairspray, as well as songs featured in his follow up film Cry Baby. Since then she has worked as a successful TV producer - and she turned 50 last year!

The song I chose to post here is a 1981 cover medley of two songs I have loved for as long as I can remember - "Be My Baby" (The Ronettes) and "And Then He Kissed Me" (The Crystals). Miss Sweet does a great job of putting these together in a medley that makes me feels like I should be out in the garden with an over sized hat, sunglasses and a glass of lemonade...

Yes, I remember seeing that Miss Sweet sold it a few years ago for a nice sum. All roads do indeed lead to M...

Miss Smith had a lot of super-cool support over here in the UK. She signed to Stiff Records (home of Ian Dury) and her album was produced by none other than the legendary Martin Rushent!

I remember her hit B-A-B-Y and her duet with old "Banana Max" himself Rex Smith on Everlasting Love, but I don't remember this. I am rather relieved to say... Jx
