It's That Time Again...

Well, it is Eurovision time next week. And I must say that I havent been less excited about in years. Why? Simply because I feel that this year's selection is overall extremely mediocre. Which is a shame, because the first two tracks I heard this year were both excellent. But then I heard the Icelandic entry (awful, as usual) and it was all downhill after that.

However, there are some "gems" hidden amongst the trash. So here are my favourites this year:

My absolute favourite! Sweden needs to win this year!!! Catchy, camp and over-the-top, this is a perfect Eurovision song!

Excellent track from Hungary. Love the whole 80s thing, very catchy and a great singer. Should do very well.

I didnt expect to like this - but it is very catchy, and considering the competition this one does stand out a bit. Hopefully Ireland will make the finals.

The same as above - except the UK of course already have a place in the finals. I think this is one of the better entries from the UK in the last fews years, and it might do well. I just HATE the "singer" that keeps screaming like a strangled cat throughout the song...

I really like this one, and it stands out from the rest. However, I guess a lot of people will be put off by the fact that the performer is the girl who won it last year for Germany...

The diva is back! Dana International, who won the contest over a decade ago, is back in the competiton for Israel. I have always liked Dana, but I feels that this song is a bit underwhelming. Still, better then most of the rest in the competition...

I tend to like the songs from Spain. This year is no different, although it is not a good song at all. But it sounds spanish and feelgood, and I suppose that's enough for me...

A fun and unusual track from Estonia. Hope it does well.

There are a couple of more decent songs, including Turkey, France, Albania and Norway. The very worst of the bunch? Oh my, there are quite a few. But the ones I find the most horrendous are Finland, Malta, Slovakia, Moldova, Serbia, Iceland and Austria.

As always, it should be good fun though. So, here's to a great Eurovision week!!!

I do agree with you on your selection! Although I think Hungary's is a tad too remisniscent of Celine Dion for my liking, and Mr Sam Sparro ought to sue that Lena...

We always look forward to hosting our annual "Gay World Cup" party here at Dolores Delargo Towers - I have bought the bunting, allocated the countries to our guests and started buying for the buffet already! Shame you can't be here to join us - we always have such fun! Jx

This is one of the weakest and worst Eurovision in years. The bad songs are REALLY BAD (Finland and Slovakia particullary). Still I am excited, I always am when it comes to Eurovision. Go Sweden, go Hungary!!!

Well Jon, I will make sure to be there in spirit (and you never know - I just might burst in during Swedens performance to break a glass or two) ;)
