The Truth!...

The cover for the new Cher album! ME LOVES!!!

King Of Everything...

Boy George 'This Is What I Do'

Boy George has announced a new album. He will will release This Is What I Do on October 28 through his own Very Me record label.

"I wanted to make a baggy album, not overproduced and I think I have achieved it," Boy George stated. I was listening to things like 'Beast Of Burden' by The Stones, and I had my head most definitely in the '70s. (Long-time writing partner) Richie Stevens's approach was very organic and he's the best drummer in the world so the feel of the record was so locked in from the start. I was also writing from a happy place. This time, no ex-lovers to get revenge on. For me Bigger Than War sums up the tone."

Boy George has collaborated with a host of musicians including DJ Yoda, Kitty Durham (Kitty Daisy & Lewis), Ally McErlaine (Texas / Red Sky July), MC Spee (Dreadzone) and Nizar Al Issa.

This Is What I Do will be 12 tracks long and be supported by a seven-date tour of the UK later this year.

Tracklist:

1. 'King of Everything'
2. 'Bigger Than War'
3. 'Live Your Life'
4. 'My God'
5. 'It's Easy'
6. 'Death of Samantha'
7. 'Any Road'
8. 'My Star'
9. 'Love and Danger'
10. 'Nice and Slow'
11. 'Play Me'
12. 'Feel the Vibration'

The full dates for Boy George's UK tour are as follows:

November 3 - Manchester, RNCM
November 5 - Birmingham, Glee Club
November 6 - Leeds, City Varieties Music Hall
November 7 - Glasgow, King Tuts
November 9 - Oxford, O2 Academy 2
November 10 - London, Koko
November 11 - Brighton, Concorde 2

Hot - And Bothered...

We all know that the singles charts have become a complete joke in recent years – especially the US one. I completely stopped following the US single chart in the late 90s when Billboard decided that somewhere around 85-90% of data used to compile the charts would come from radio play – with what little was left coming from actual sales. This meant, in many cases that the biggest selling single in the country was barely charting on the Hot 100 – because it was a song that either „didn‘t fit in“ to the radio playlists, or because the artist/s was considered „over the hill“.

Now, with all the bloody digital things, Billboard are using, of all things, YouTube hits to count towards their charts! So, if I were to check out a song on YouTube, finding it awful and never, ever wanting to hear it again, I have just contributed to the songs chart success!

Of course this opens up several cans of worms. Example:

Lady Gaga has been criticised by Billboard boss Bill Werde for promoting the inflation of views for her new music video.

The US Hot 100 recently adjusted their chart-placing formula to include online streams, which include the number of clicks an online lyrics video, audio stream or music video gets on YouTube and VEVO.
Gaga urged her fans to watch the clip for her new single "Applause" and then retweet it to urge other fans to dramatically inflate the number of streams. "We count multiple views per person. Go to VEVO and keep watching a video on your own and we count it," Werde explained.

"An artist tweeting out and facebooking a link that enables a fan to hit play and leave their computer is not in the spirit of what we chart. Tweeting that other artists game the system is like telling a cop other people were speeding. When we catch it we stop it." He continued: "Please keep this in context. Streaming is only a portion of Hot100 and surely overwhelming percent of views have been well-earned. I just hate to see anyone try to game the charts, be it fans or artists. It's not in the spirit of what we do, celebrating success."

Gaga's fans were accused of creating YouTube playlists that would contain the same "Applause" video 150 times, clicking play and letting the streams accumulate through the night.

Of course manipulating the charts isn't a new thing. Who can forget the Mariah Carey thing in the late 90s, when her record company gave away her singles to the record stores. In return the stores promoted them heavily and sold them for less then 50 cents - which in return made people buy them since they were much, much cheaper then singles by other artists. But with this latest decision Billboard have once again made sure that their singles chart does not in the slightest reflect what people in the States are actually buying. Now excuse me while I go and create a couple of playlists for the new Cher single - I'll just push play, mute and go to sleep while the diva ranks up a massive hit...

This Is A Woman's...Video...

The song premiered late last year! The lyric video 2 months ago! There have been a couple of live performances on TV. But now, FINALLY, the video for the new Cher single!

According to the Daily Mail, the single will be released on October 13th in the UK and new album Closer To The Truth on October 14th. Funnily enough, the single has been "out" (digital only) since June in the U.S. and the album will be released on 24th September over there. Wonder why there is such a gap - not to mention the delay with the video, considering it was filmed in January!

Never Can Say Goodbye...

Cher has revealed on Twitter that she will embark on a new tour, due to kick off in March 2014!

Long time designer and pal Bob Mackie will work with Cher designing new outfits for the tour, creating unique never before seen costumes.“Just heard BoB will Make costumes for “The Tour” Makes me so Unbelievably “Happy” ! Last Time Around, wouldn’t be ME…. without HIM”.

With the grueling tour schedule Cher plans to do a satellite tour, meaning she will stay in one hotel and fly out to all the gigs rather than travel by tour bus on the road.

Cher is currently working on the setlist, revealing that deciding the set list is “Pull my hair out time.  It’s hard to do new songs when you have to do all your old hits ! Its a delicate Balance”.

Love To Love...

A new Donna Summer remix album will be released later this year. The collection will be titled Love To Love You Donna and will be released on October 22 through Verve Records

The set will feature a number of re-workings from the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Hot Chip, Chromeo & Oliver, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper and others. Mororder - who co-produced some of Summer's albums in the 1970s - has reworked "Love To Love You Baby" for the project. The producer debuted his remix of the classic track during his set at Way Out West festival in Gothenberg, Sweden last week.

Knuckles and Kupper have worked on a new version of "Hot Stuff", while Hot Chip have remixed "Sunset People".  Chromeo & Oliver have reworked "Love Is In Control (Finger On the Trigger)" as the set's lead single.

 - 'Verve Records Announces "Love To Love You Donna" A Remix Record of Donna Summer Classics!' image

The project came together at Verve because of the long friendship between David Foster (Verve Music Group's Chairman) and Summer's family, says Mike Rittberg, Verve/Universal Music Group's VP of artist development/promotion. The set was initially conceived as a "tribute" album, but soon turned into a full-on remix project. Artwork and full tracklist for the album will be announced soon.

Love to Love You Donna is not -- at this point -- part of a longer-term, multi-album deal with Summer's estate and Verve Records. Below is the artwork and tracklist:

Tracklist:

1. Love To Love You Baby (Giorgio Moroder feat. Chris Cox Remix)

SOTD...

File:AlisonMoyetIsThisLoveSingle.jpg

I have been listening a lot to the new Alison Moyet album recently (it's very, very good!). But now we step back in time - to the magical year of 1986.

"Is This Love" was released in November 1986 as the first single from Alison's sophomore album Raindancing. The song became a big hit all over Europe. It also became her second biggest solo single in the UK, peaking at #3 ("That Ole Devil Called Love" reached #2 the year before). The album also became her second biggest album, peaking at #2 (following the #1 position of Alf in 1984).

Alison may have felt at the time that she was "being pushed" into a very commercial direction, but the hits she had from those two album remain her biggest (and certainly among her best). Oh, and the extended version of this track is excellent! Sadly the same can not be said for the music video!

Have a great weekend!
