Take Two...

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan could be reunited on stage this Christmas, according to Pete Waterman.

The producer and songwriter has revealed that he plans to re-schedule his Hit Factory event, which was cancelled earlier this month due to health and safety fears. Waterman told the BBC: "We are going to do it again at Christmas. We are going to do two nights at the O2 Arena, or at least one night."

He added: "I just have to convince one of the artists to stay here until at least Christmas Eve and we can do it all the way we want to."

The pair were due to perform their duet 'Especially For You' for the first time in 23 years alongside other acts signed to the PWL label, including Steps, Bananarama, Sinitta, and Rick Astley.

Donovan later added that he was "extremely disappointed" and "frustrated" by the cancellation with other acts also voicing their disappointment.

And speaking of the girls: OH DEAR GOD!

Pajama Party With...

So, ever wondered what eternal diva Cher looks like in the studio? Actually, she wears these glam pajamas while she records her new album!

She is in full swing these days recording, just finishing a Timbaland track. After what he did to Madonna's Hard Candy album (and considering how very very tired his sound is), I am not too thrilled - but it seems like it is just one song.

The first single should be out in October, with the album following before christmas!

SOTD...

File:Erasure single RMG.jpg

This is one of my favorite songs from Erasure, taken from their extremely underrated 1996 Erasure album.

"Rock Me Gently" was not released as a single in the UK or the US, making this one of their least known singles. It is a beautiful song though (especially the 10 minute album version, which is a lot less commercial). And I quite like the video as well...

Old? Right!...

Never mind the bedrudgers, says Carol Hunt, superstar Madonna and her bum are still fabulous at 53

It was Amy Huberman's tweet that started it. "Right," it read. "Dressed like Madonna for the concert tonight. One boob out."

Last week in Dublin, it wasn't boobs Madge was showing off, but bums.

Her bum to be exact. Which, in my - admittedly rather limited - experience of female bottoms, is rather fantastic. And not, as is usually mentioned immediately after a comment admiring of Madonna's body, just "for a 53 year old".

Nope, Madonna's bottom would look good on just about anyone. Well, nearly... oh, let's not go there.

But Huberman's fun comment - which was then followed by some rather unflattering retorts concerning Madonna's Nipplegate episode in Istanbul - made me realise just how much flak Madge has to take purely because she's still determined to remain as fabulous as a lot of ferocious hard work, good living and great surgery will allow. Even, God help us all, at the ripe old of age of 53.

Just previous to her MDNA tour, two other Old Goldies arrived into Dublin: Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen: One 70 and the other 62.

The first held a rather demure sit-down event in the O2 with a suitably well behaved audience (if reports are to be believed), the second a slightly more raucous gig in the RDS but pretty much serving the same demographic.

Then we had Madonna; younger than both boyos; fitter, fabulously dressed with sexy dancers and routines that would exhaust an Olympic triathlon athlete; still setting trends and creating controversies (the swastika in the Marine Le Pen video) and what do the begrudgers say this time around?

She's too old.

Too old for what?

For keeping breasts inside her cone bra? Her pert bum hidden under her fishnets? Her 53-year-old legs in something a little more demure than the Super Shorts she wears with thigh-high boots?

Of course, deriding Madonna is nothing new. She's always been the smartest, hardest working, toughest b**ch on the block. That has intimidated a whole swathe of people who then try to disguise their misogyny/envy/fear/horror as snobbish disdain.

On and on she goes, indestructible; immune and indifferent to the complaints of those who aren't fit to tweak her bra strap. And now they're getting at her for growing older. Jesus wept; since when has aging become such a crime?

Or is it because, in Madonna's case it's the fact that at 53 she looks fantastic and can still put the likes of imitator Lady Gaga in the shade? Doesn't she know that older women are worth less than younger ones? (The opposite rule with men). That they're supposed to shut up?

Madonna puts on a show to beat all rivals: she can cartwheel, backflip and still make her twenty-something backing dancers look like they're struggling to keep up with her. I'd love to see the likes of Paul Simon or Bruce Springsteen try that.

Ouch! Then again, maybe not.

Statement...

Liz Rosenberg has released a statement on Madonna's Olympia "controversy":

Madonna’s Paris club show was planned as her heartfelt thank-you to France, which she expressed at the start of her show. Despite a grueling concert tour, she desperately wanted to perform for her fans in an intimate setting at the historic Olympia as a means to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years.

The show was not billed as her full MDNA concert and tremendous effort was made to keep the ticket prices reasonable ($100 for 2,000 floor seats) and keep them strictly for her fans.
The show cost Madonna close to a million dollars to produce. She has done a handful of club dates in the past and they were never more than 45 minutes. And by the way, she put on a fabulous show, which was streamed for millions of fans around the world.

Well said, as usual!

It also seems there was a planned campaign against Madonna that evening. People were showing up with printed flyers with hateful messages to M - and these were the people that started the screaming. They seem to be supporters of France's extreme right-wing leader Marine Le Pen and they have been on Twitter since the show, saying they have "succeeded in trashing Madonna's performance" and so on.

Le Pen has threatened to sue Madonna because the screen projection for "Nobody Knows Me" on the current tour shows her with a Swastika superimposed on her forehead (Madonna feels that Le Pen is one of the politicians that really should look up the word tolerance).

"I know that I have made a certain Marine Le Pen very angry with me," Madonna told fans. It's not my intention to make enemies. It's my intention to promote tolerance," she continued.

UPDATE:

A statement from the queen herself:

"Playing the Olympia was a magical moment for me and it was real treat to do this special show for my fans and be so close to them. Unfortunately at the end of the show - after I left the stage - a few thugs who were not my fans rushed the stage and started throwing plastic bottles pretending to be angry fans. The press reports have focused on this and not the joyous aspect of the evening. But nothing can take away or ruin this very special evening for me and my fans. When I looked out in the audience, everyone I saw had a smile on their face. I look forward to having this wonderful experience again."

Madonna performs on stage during her MDNA concert at Olympia Hall in Paris (July 26 2012)

From the Examiner:

For the past couple of days, the media has enjoyed a field day reporting on how Madonna's career is over with since she was booed off stage at a private Paris concert. They have been doing this despite the fact that videos show the crowd having a great time and dancing. To make the story more believable, the media emphasized how after the show, "fans" threw bottles at the stage and called her a "slut." Until now, nobody looked into the allegations.

It turns out that many fans did feel shortchanged due to lack of communication on how the show would be shorter. But the actual riots and the screaming were started by supporters of Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far right National Front in Paris. Apparently, they are still upset that Madonna compares Le Pen to a Nazi in her tour. Even though Le Pen isn't a Nazi, the National Front has been accused of having Nazi ties and until recently, denied the Holocaust existed.

The French DST (equivalent to FBI in America) reported that a disturbance was planned, whether Madonna left early or not. There were several people holding up signs that made fun of Madonna's age, sexuality, and political affiliations. Once the show stopped, they started calling her rude names, rushed the stage with bottles, and encouraged others to boo. They took videos and uploaded them to YouTube immediately.

But Le Pen's supporters aren't the only ones involved. On several sites, many of Lady Gaga's "little monsters" are asking each other to post messages everywhere to say they can confirm Madonna is a liar since they were at the show. They are even posting false pictures of themselves at concerts and saying it was Madonna's Paris show. It's doubtful Lady Gaga would approve of this.

One fan emailed us and explained that he and his friends had an amazing time, but were certainly disappointed about the show's lengh. "Madonna was in top form. It's a shame she left early, but we still had a great time. I can tell you from being there that her own 'fans' did not start any riots. That is just media spin. There are people negatively commenting on Twitter who claim to have been at the show, but weren't. I can tell you 100 percent of what happened because I was there."

"Life Is Too Short To Be Bitter...

26 July 2012 - Paris

...And I'm Too Short To Be Bitter!"

Download the full video from Madonna's last night's French mini-gig here

and the audio here

26 July 2012 - Paris

The Queen of Pop performed songs from the set list of her current tour plus two tracks that were exclusively rehearsed for this mini gig: Beautiful Killer mashed up with Die Another Day that led into the classic french song Je t'aime moi non plus.

Sadly, some people at the show had no idea that this was in fact a mini-gig and not a complete concert and there were some angry people leaving the gig after booing and throwing bottles on the stage after Madonna had left the building. Reviews about her performance were of course glowing - but perhaps this should have been more clearly advertised as a MINI-concert!

However, this recording is a fabulous thing to have until the fullblown, complete show comes out on DVD!

Paradise...

Lana Del Rey will release a special edition of her bestselling album Born To Die in November.

'It's gonna happen. It is not a new album, but an after thought, it's the 'Paradise Edition' of Born To Die. It's going to be like 7 new songs, which makes the final statement of the thoughts I was putting across on Born To Die. It's beautiful. I've been writing for 7 months now."

Apparently the re-issue will also include the track Blue Velvet that she is doing for H&M. I love the album and I will get the new version as well for sure.

Summertime Sadness (2-Track)

Lana premiered the video for her German-ony single "Summertime Sadness" last week:
