SOTD...

File:Single cover diana ross pieces of ice.jpeg

The song of the day is this "obscure" little number from the eternally wonderful Diana Ross.

"Pieces Of Ice" was released as the first single from her 1983 album Ross. The song peaked at #31 in the US and is supposedly not a favorite with either Miss Ross or fans (the song was cut from her Central Park DVD and has never appeared on any of her best-of compilations).

It is not one of her best, for sure. But I still quite like it (and she looks FABULOUS in the video, despite the fact that there are some very strange animal people doing jazz ballet all around her). Enjoy!

God, it couldn't sound more "archetypal American 80s" if it tried... I can understand why this wasn't popular; there is actually very little about this record that sounds anything like Miss Ross - not the vocals nor the rhythm. It could be a Pat Benatar B-side. Jx
