Lillian Lopez, a founding member of the dance group Odyssey,
has passed away from cancer at the age of 76.
“It is with tremendous sadness that I announce the passing
of my Mother, my mentor, and my very best friend, the founder and first voice
of ODYSSEY, Lillian Lopez Collazo Jackson, who died peacefully in hospice on
September 4th due to stage four cancer at the age of 76,” Lillian’s son, Steven
Andre said in a statement.
“She will live on in spirit through Annis, Anne, and me as
we endeavour to carry on her legacy; to continue the musical journey that is,
and always was, ODYSSEY… And of course, her magical voice can still be heard on
practically any day, anywhere in the UK: When next you do, and if you can, TURN
IT UP! She’d like that… Goodbye Ma, and Thank You.”
Odyssey originally formed as the Lopez Sisters (Carmen, Lillian, and
Louise) in 1968. They are best known for their 1977 disco smash “Native New Yorker”.

Awe RIP. One of my all time faves from that era.
I adore this song - there is just something very special about it. Sad to see the news that Lillian had passed away.
Great song. RIP Lillian
How very sad! I adored Odyssey - not just for this song, but for the joy of their hits such as Back to my Roots and Use It Up and Wear It Out, as well as the tearjerker If You're Lookin' For a Way Out. I still have all of them on vinyl! RIP a sweet, sweet voice. Jx
