Dance music has been getting quite good again, me thinks. There is a lot of great songs out there, no matter what category of dance music they fall under.
One of my favorite dance artists at the moment is a 24 year old Russian/German guy who calls himself Zedd. He is a classically trained musician (both his parents are musicians) and began playing the piano and drums at the age of four. He has written, remixed and produced songs for artists like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. In 2011 he started to release his own songs and in 2012 he signed with Interscope Records. His first single on the label, "Spectrum", drew a lot of attention and the follow up singles "Clarity" and "Stay The Night" became even more successful.
His songs are very well written and his vocalists are quite excellent - in particular the recent dance music favorite (and Carly Ray-Jepsen's boyfriend) Matthew Koma. He also co-wrote two of Zedd's biggest hits to date - "Clarity" and "Spectrum".
Zedd released his debut album Clarity in 2012. It was re-released a year later - and is very high on my wish list at the moment!
Here are three of his best songs yet. All of them topped the US Club chart and "Clarity" earned him a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. This guy is defiantly one to watch...

I rather like "Clarity", but after a few repeat listens on the cable music channels we had one while getting ready to go out in Spain, all three songs began to grate somewhat. I think it is that recent phenomenon in how-songs-must-be-sung-to-impress-an-X-Factor-jury, the false emotion "rise" halfway through - rather reminiscent of practically every musical that Andrew Lloyd-Webber's ever done, or, as was mercilessly taken the piss out of in Spamalot's "Song That Goes Like This"

I know what you mean, and I agree. Sometimes I do feel it works though, for example in these songs - probably because they are well written (the acoustic versions are excellent) and because I actually like all the singers on them. But what you are talking about has ruined quite a few songs for me...
Oh dear - sorry 'bout that (hee hee!)

Hehehe - well, it was before you brought it up, so I guess you are off the hook my dear ;)
