Tracks...

Tracks time again - a rather diverse one.

This lot includes the usual mix of commercial/uncommercial recent tracks, including not one but two fantastic videos from Goldfrapp, the latest from my new French fave Indila, the latest video from the fabulous Lana Del Rey, the Kazaky boys etc. Considering it is the middle of summer (despite the complete lack of it over here, at least weather wise), it seems that a lot of the music coming out this time around is rather laid back but the likes of Martha Wash are here to try and fix that.

As always, hope you'll find something to enjoy here.

Firstly, may I reiterate that Miss Amanda Lear is beyond reproach, and I will say nothing more but that I adore her, "new music list" or no "new music list". You are also aware of my feelings about Miss Roisin Murphy - she is just wonderful, and this Italian EP is sheer perfection...

So what of the others?

Let's get the ones I really didn't like out of the way. João Brasil feat. Lovefoxxx? Ewww. Bagdad? Unlistenable. Adore Delano? A drag queen equivalent of Eminem. No thanks.

I can see what Andreas Bourani is trying to do with his video - to create an uplifting, all-encompassing "anthem". Shame the song is so wishy-washy. Miss Sia is another one with a belief in herself that runs completely contrary to her minimal talents. She can't sing and she can't write good songs (apart from "Into the Blue" for Kylie - and the rest of her songs on that album were fairly weak - the drivel she has done for the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney and Cristina is just horrid). Me no likey.

That Paloma Faith song is such a direct rip-off of Duffy's Mercy, it's shameless! I like Ms Faith (she seems a jolly person), but if this was the first time I'd heard or seen her, I would never have bothered to listen again. Speaking of identikit - Indila really is lining herself up to be the new Mylene Farmer, isn't she? Hmmmm.

Much, much better is Goldfrapp's "Jo" - and that video is rather perfect, too. "Stranger" is a bit dreary for my taste. Miss Del Rey's latest effort, however, pales somewhat in comparison to each. Not a bad song (even if - as always - she "over-eggs" the vocals too much). Not a classic, either.

The OneRepublic one is rather catchy. As for Miss Martha Wash - wow! As ever, it takes someone with a genuinely fantastic voice to show all those chart-hogging bitches how it really should be done...

So it's a "toss-up" (yes, please! :-) between two long-standing favourites. Our favourite houseboys Kazaky - yet again - have produced another truly classy, catchy, sexy number that I can safely add to my long list of faves by them. It is a mystery why they have not achieved the fame and fortune in the West they so richly deserve.

But there's only one winner (Miss Lear and Miss Murphy aside). Oh joy - Mika makes a comeback at last! And what a marvellous one, at that. I love it. I adore it. I want his babies...

Sorry it's taken such a while to get to listen to/comment on these, but as always, you do a sterling job of compiling it all - keep up the great work, sweetie! Jx

Thank you darling - I'm glad you found something to enjoy here.

My personal faves of the batch are Andreas Bourani, Indila, Goldfrapp, Martha Wash, Kazaky, Mika, One Republic and the Sia song (I do think she has written some excellent songs, although I have not heard her album).

The Paloma song it not bad IMO, but I have heard it a few times now and I can't for the life of me remember the melody offhand. I adore Miss Lear and Miss Murphy but these two particular songs rate somewhat lower for me than a lot of their other material. Still, both are quite good and I would like the album/EP from them. I find Adore Delano to be a somewhat fresh change from the usual thump-thump-awful dance music that so many of these queens tend to release.

In any case, look out for the next batch :)
