She may have had seven UK Number 1s, but Kylie Minogue has had even more Number 2s.

The Australian pop princess is just one behind Madonna when it comes to singles that have peaked at Number 2 (if you count Madonna's feature on Britney's "Me Against The Music", which we do).

When we counted down Kylie's chart-toppers last week, lots of you asked for sales of her Number 2s and we were more than happy to oblige. We’ve crunched the numbers, scoured the archives and can now present Kylie’s Number 2 hits ranked in sales order…

SALES: 150,000
WEEKS AT NUMBER 2: One
KEPT OFF NUMBER 1 BY: Band Aid 20Do They Know It’s Christmas?
CHART FACT: This was the second time Kylie was kept off the top by a charity single.

CHART FACT: The week Confide In Me went in at Number 2, just behind it was Youssou N’Dour’s 7 Seconds FT Neneh Cherry at Number 3.

CHART FACT: Kids hit Number 2 just a month after On A Night Like This, giving Kylie her first consecutive Number 2 singles since 1988.

CHART FACT: This was the first time Wet Wet Wet blocked a Kylie song from going Number 1. They’d go on to do it another TWO times!

1. The Loco-Motion (1988)

SALES: 425,000
WEEKS AT NUMBER 2: Four
KEPT OFF NUMBER 1 BY: Yazz & The Plastic PopulationThe Only Way is Up
CHART FACT: Kylie was leading sales most of the week, until a huge sales increase on the Saturday sprang Yazz to the top of the charts. She had to settle for Number 2, but it was still the highest entry ever by a female artist on the UK charts at that time.


Kylie's new album Kiss Me Once has topped the Australian charts and made it's debut in Ireland at #4 (her highest position since Fever). In the UK it seems set to debut at #2 tomorrow.
