Time (Clock Of The Heart)...
Yet another major star from the 80s hits the big 50: Boy George celebrates his 50th birthday today!
While he had massive success all over the world in the early 80s with his band Culture Club, his career has since suffered many professional as well as personal problems throughout. He has kept busy though, and he has released some excellent (but often hard to get) music - I particulary love the stripped down/acoustic album U Can Never B2 Straight from 2002. Here is a look at the main discography from the Boy so far.
CULTURE CLUB
BOY GEORGE
He has appeared on records with many different artists, including Antony & The Johnsons, Sash, PM Dawn, Dark Globe and just recently on the track "Somebody To Love Me" with Mark Ronson.
He has written his own bestselling autobiography ("Take It Like A Man"), starred in his own musical ("Taboo", available on DVD - it is quite good), established himself as a successful DJ (releasing several DJ albums), released dance music under the name of The Twin and he has created his own fashion line - the excellent B-Rude. And just recently there was a TV movie made in the UK about his early life (he was one of the Blitz kids).
In the near future: Culture Club are coming back to celebrate their 30th anniversary! There will be a new album next year, their first since the group came back together for one album which was released in 1999. Should be interesting. But in the meantime: happy birthday to one of the most important figure of the 80´s - here are three of my Boy George faves!
