God & Games...

Boy George has announced a new single, "My God" as the second single from his comeback album This Is What I Do, which marked his first top 40 album since 1987's Sold.

"'My God' is a celebration of faith and the tale of a man who lost faith and found it," said Boy George. "It could be me - but it might be you!"

While a full music video will accompany the single in due course, the release will also include a cover of Lana Del Rey's "Video Games". "Video Games" is a very unusual pop song," he explained. "It reminds me so much of "The Crying Game" and "Blue Velvet". I also adore Lana Del Rey."

The musician has also announced details of a UK tour for next year, which kicks off in Edinburgh on March 30 and includes a show at London's Indigo2 on April 3.

Tickets - priced between £23.50 and £35 - go on sale on Friday, December 20 at 9am. The full list of tour dates appears below:

March 30 - Edinburgh, Liquid Rooms
March 31 - Manchester, The Ritz
April 1 - Birmingham, Institute
April 3 - London, Indigo2
April 4 - Norwich, Waterfront
April 5 - Bristol, O2 Academy

Back To The Culture...

Boy George has reveled that he’s finally decided to reform his hit band Culture Club, 15 years after they last recorded together.

George, who has just released his own solo album This Is What I Do, met with guitarist Roy Hay in LA recently and says they plan to get back in the studio with Jon Moss - George’s ex-boyfriend - and Mikey Craig in January.

“Yes, I’m finally ready for it,” he says."It will be a completely new record. There’s no point doing it just for nostalgia. I talked a few years ago about a Culture Club reunion – they wanted me to do it for years but it wasn’t right and obviously for five or ten years I was going through other things. Jon was surprised when I told him I wanted the reunion to happen at last... but I wanted to do this album for myself first.”

King Of Everything...

Boy George 'This Is What I Do'

Boy George has announced a new album. He will will release This Is What I Do on October 28 through his own Very Me record label.

"I wanted to make a baggy album, not overproduced and I think I have achieved it," Boy George stated. I was listening to things like 'Beast Of Burden' by The Stones, and I had my head most definitely in the '70s. (Long-time writing partner) Richie Stevens's approach was very organic and he's the best drummer in the world so the feel of the record was so locked in from the start. I was also writing from a happy place. This time, no ex-lovers to get revenge on. For me Bigger Than War sums up the tone."

Boy George has collaborated with a host of musicians including DJ Yoda, Kitty Durham (Kitty Daisy & Lewis), Ally McErlaine (Texas / Red Sky July), MC Spee (Dreadzone) and Nizar Al Issa.

This Is What I Do will be 12 tracks long and be supported by a seven-date tour of the UK later this year.

Tracklist:

1. 'King of Everything'
2. 'Bigger Than War'
3. 'Live Your Life'
4. 'My God'
5. 'It's Easy'
6. 'Death of Samantha'
7. 'Any Road'
8. 'My Star'
9. 'Love and Danger'
10. 'Nice and Slow'
11. 'Play Me'
12. 'Feel the Vibration'

Tracks...

Time for the first collection of tracks for 2013. The year does not start off all that interesting, with a very disappointing Depeche Mode single and new songs from Hurts and Sarah Brightman that are not bad but just don't deliver what I had hoped for. Videos for both songs have disappeared from the internet (the Hurts video is currently being re-edited to remove some "controversial" matters, including burning crucifixes - hello 1989) and I have no idea what happened to Sarah's video. I don't dare to try to upload either of those myself, so I am not including them for now.

But here is my first selection of the year. We have amongst other things some drag queens (courtesy of Boy George), an ex-Calling singer making a bloody Adele song work (for me, at least), a porn star with an unusual partner and Svetlana Loboda being rather dramatic over here in Iceland (she did NOT pop in for coffee - I am obviously very distraught!)

Tracks...

I am sorry about the lack of updates recently, I have been (and continue to be) quite busy these days.

There has been pretty long time since I uploaded a batch of new tracks that I like. And there is a simple reason: there just haven't been that many! 2012 is going down as one of the most uninspired music years ever. But, there are still some treats to be found and here is a collection of some of my favorite tracks over the past few months:

(Thankfully, in the almost complete absence of good, upbeat pop music I have been having a great time over the last few months with a musical discovery that I will post about soon)

Tracks...

2012 has been a pretty terrible music year so far IMO. Only a couple of good albums and not an awful lot of  great singles either - which is why it's been quite a while since I last posted some tracks. But I did manage to get some songs together that make up a selection of everything from the excellent to the tacky goodness we all adore. So here goes:

Hang Ups...

Boy George will release a cover album this summer. The album, titled Hang Ups, will be his first new album since he released Ordinary Alien in 2010. It is expected to be released in July.

The album will be the first of several new projects the singer will release exclusively on his official website. The album will include covers of Boy’s favorite songs, including some Italian tracks he recorded for a charity EP that was never released. It is also expected to include his excellent version of the Lana Del Rey song "Video Games".

This better be out on CD!

Time (Clock Of The Heart)...

Yet another major star from the 80s hits the big 50: Boy George celebrates his 50th birthday today!

While he had massive success all over the world in the early 80s with his band Culture Club, his career has since suffered many professional as well as personal problems throughout. He has kept busy though, and he has released some excellent (but often hard to get) music - I particulary love the stripped down/acoustic album U Can Never B2 Straight from 2002. Here is a look at the main discography from the Boy so far.

CULTURE CLUB

BOY GEORGE

Boy George - High Hat

He has appeared on records with many different artists, including Antony & The Johnsons, Sash, PM Dawn, Dark Globe and just recently on the track "Somebody To Love Me" with Mark Ronson.

He has written his own bestselling autobiography ("Take It Like A Man"), starred in his own musical ("Taboo", available on DVD - it is quite good), established himself as a successful DJ (releasing several DJ albums), released dance music under the name of The Twin and he has created his own fashion line - the excellent B-Rude. And just recently there was a TV movie made in the UK about his early life (he was one of the Blitz kids).

In the near future: Culture Club are coming back to celebrate their 30th anniversary! There will be a new album next year, their first since the group came back together for one album which was released in 1999. Should be interesting. But in the meantime: happy birthday to one of the most important figure of the 80´s - here are three of my Boy George faves!

A Duo?...

An interesting rumour that is going around at the moment: Boy George and Grace Jones are said to be working on some music. After they both did Night Of The Proms last year they apperantly decided to try to make some music together. That would be a YES PLEASE from moi...
