Tracks...

Time for a new batch of tracks that I am loving at the moment. This lot includes the return of two female singers that I adore - Miss Kylie Minogue and Miss Lisa Stansfield, who released her first album in 10 years this week. Seven charted at 13# in both the UK and Germany to excellent reviews - I'm waiting very impatiently for my Amazon order to arrive...

The rest is a mix of pop/dance music from all over the world, as usual. Hopefully there is something in there for everyone. Enjoy!

OK - I finally have an evening when I can concentrate on new poppery...

You already know I absolutely adore Into The Blue (although that video is somewhat dodgy-in-a-tacky-perfume-ad-sort-of-way), but what of the others?

I have been a bit sniffy about Miss Stanfield's recent output, but Carry On - available here, btw (your posted version is gone) - is rather good, if a little sparse for a fully-fledged soul diva number. With a bit more remixing, it could be fab.

My Crazy Girlfriend sounds like any other KatyPerryMileyCyrusKeishaSlag on the planet, but with a bit of swearing - horrible. I am not overly keen on Miss Ida Corr's voice either (although the fella in the video is a bit sexy). Did "Katy B" win some amateur "talent" contest like X-Factor or something? If not, she wibbles (I hesitate to call it singing) like she did.

Stromae is certainly an intriguing character - not too sure about Formidable (a bit intense), but Tout les Memes has a bit more of a decadent cafe culture feel to it - and a much more interesting video, to boot. Indila (more French?) is definitely a melodramatic mam'selle - the song reminded me a bit of our house fave Hijo de la Luna (but not as good, obviously).

Three of the artists in your selection - Clean Bandit, Afrojack and Avicii - were constantly on rotation (in fact, we got heartily sick to bloody death of the latter!) on the dance channels we watched in our apartment in Spain while getting ready to go out after siesta, so it is sort of jolly to hear them again. But Addicted to You is new to me - and I like it, mainly due to the vocals of Miss Audra Mae (who, interestingly, is the great-great-niece of Judy Garland!).

I do like the Euro-trashy Vassy - we are, after all, all mad! I think Photomation by Jaberwocky is excellent (although that video is unnecessarily brutal, which rather puts me off). But... for it's sheer camp value as much as anything, the crown (once again) must go to the fantabulosa Alexander Bard, and his drawing-together of Gravitonas and Army of Lovers! I love it!

Whew. Keep up the great work, sweetie! Jx

Weird - the Lisa video still works fine for me. Must be some regional thing...

I actually think that the Kylie video is a nice change from the usual, over the top high glossy over-sexual thing that so many female videos are at the moment (for example, the Rihanna/Shakira video thing is dreadful beyond words!).

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa - been away far too long! Thrilled to have her back and very much looking forward to the postman to bring me the new album. I think the sparse element actually works in the songs favor the more I listen to it - but I know what you mean.

My Crazy Girlfriend is trash, yes - but I refuse to put that track in the same category as the persons you mentioned (*throws up a little*). The reason it's included is because the rather perky chorus has been in my head a few times over the least couple of weeks while I've been dealing with some, shall we say, unpleasant people ;)

Katy B has not been in any of the shit talent shows, as far as I know. But I paid no attention to her debut album or it's singles - this single however really grabbed me and is one of my current mega-faves.

Ah yes, Stromae - LOVE HIM! "Alors A Danse" was a massive fave of mine about three years ago and he has been releasing some excellent stuff since. These two featured here are probably my favorites so far (I must get his albums). The song by newcomer Indila is a massive grower (for me at least) - it just keeps getting better the more I hear it.

Avicci may be rather overexposed, but I still really like his music. And I am certain that the director of the new video had just watched "Baise-Moi" before he made the video! I really like the voice of Miss Mae, but had no idea that she was related to Judy - thank for the info!

The Vassy track is good fun and I absolutely adore "Photomation". But I agree with you: my fave of the bunch (besides Kylie and Lisa) is the new one from Gravitonas/Army Of Lovers - they proved how fabulous they are together with "Signed On My Tattoo" and this one is fantastic as well!

'Til next time (I await your next selection with an-tici-pation) ;)
