Dame Shirley Bassey has announced a new
album.
Hello Like Before will be the star's first
record in five years and celebrates the 60 years she has spent in the
entertainment business. The new album celebrates Bassey's favourite
songs of the 20th century and includes reworkings of Sting's "Englishman In New
York" and Frank Sinatra's "It Was A Very Good Year".
"When I was 17 I was too young to do
this song, and when I was 21, and 35... I've waited all these years to do
it," Bassey said of the Sinatra classic.
The star added of album track "Macarthur
Park": "I broke down with emotion in the rehearsals for this, couldn't
finish it... I want it to make everybody cry."
The album was recorded at Abbey Road
studios with producer and musical director Stuart Barr. Hello Like Before will be released on
November 17.
