Tracks...

It's been ages since my last collection of tracks (actually, it's been ages since my last post!). I have been extremely busy and really haven't had the extra time to maintain the blog.

But here are some recent tracks I have been blasting. As always, the good, the tacky and everything in between. Enjoy :)

So good to have you back! If only briefly and (very) occasionally. I do love your musical jukebox selections!

First, lets get the one I really didn't like out of the way. PJ Brennan's song was, I am afraid, just awful - I really do not like the Sam Smith/Ed Sheeran school of whining, and no amount of fake blood in a video is going to change that.

You're fond of Years & Years, then? I remember hearing them last year when they were featured as a Guardian "Band of the Day" and not giving them much of my valuable time. However, Take Shelter is a good old-fashioned pop song, and he is a very pretty boy. One wonders if he's really singing about a woman..? Desire and King are both OK, too, but a bit more strained methinks. At times he sounds like Matt Goss from Bros, and that's not good.

Bryan's team have come up with brilliantly sinister video for what is otherwise a very "Ferry-by-numbers" track. Pleasant enough (I do adore Mr F's body of work, as you know), but I am not sure this would bear another listen without the visuals. Speaking of "I've got a formula and I'm gonna stick to it" - the unpronounceable Kiesza appears to be yet another dance artiste whose output is all fab-and-dancy-and-everything at the moment, but before long each of her tracks will be undistinguishable from the last. And - oh no - not another "dancing in a warehouse" video?

Miss Indila has (again? I vaguely remember passing a similar comment about her or another French chanteuse on your blog) really taken a good listen to Hijo de la Luna and come up with her own impression! OK, but not as good as the original.

Your fave boy Mr Barsikh has really "gone gay" for his new video, hasn't he? Shame the song sounds like a Modern Talking b-side. Speaking of gay - a version of "Boy is a Bottom" in Spanish? I wish I could have taken a recording of that with us on our recent holiday. And Dolly Style? Bring back Aqua, all is forgiven...

You know full well I utterly worship both Queen Madge and Princess Kylie, so I need pass no comment on either of their excellent efforts.

Kovacs' choon is rather marvellous - shades of a Siouxsie album track, perhaps? - and she has an excellent voice, whoever she is!

Of course my houseboys Kazaky have come up with a brilliant song (and visual) yet again with What You Gonna Do, but...

...there is only one (if there has to be) one winner in this selection - and, I surprise myself (having never found her particularly interesting before, Immortal and I'm a Ruin being two very good reasons why) that the top of the tree in this selection is Miss Marina Lambrini Diamandis!

Froot is simply marvellous, my dear. I must have five-a-day.

Well, I was very overdue for one of these posts... Glad you found something of interest here:)

Yes, I quite Years & Years, I'm sure they will become a lot bigger in the coming months. As for Bryan Ferry, I actually love the song (and the whole album), even without the excellent video. Oh, and just make sure to take that William song with you on your next trip...

As for Kiesza, I own her CD and it's pretty good - quite a lot of slow songs to balance things out. It's just that the songs chosen as singles are the ones which might have commercial appeal (in other words: all sound the same). Indila's album is really good and yes, she clearly has heard that certain song more than a few times...

But oh dear, what's this? Jon awarding Miss Marina the winner of this selection? Do my eyes deceive me??? Actually, "Froot" was probably my favorite "single" from last year - and the album version is actually even better (longer with additional parts and a much better ending). Next to Madonna's album - OUT IN A FEW DAYS - the new Marina album is my most anticipated release of the next few months. Her last album was fantastic and I'm sure I will not be disappointed by this one.

'Til next time sweetie (and yes, there will be a next time)...

You will be overjoyed, no doubt, by the news that Years & Years' King has gone to Number 1 in the UK charts... Jx

Hello dear. Are you still with us? Just in case you didn't notice - as well as my other daily blogs - I did post a little selection of my own a few weeks ago, that I thought you might like to peruse... Jx

Hello, hello - yeah, still here, but only just! Thankfully I am about to go on a glorious 10 day vacation, which will hopefully provide me with some catch-up time! I am already looking forward to your latest selections of songs, thanks for the heads up :)

And yes, I did predict Years & Years would become big! Very pleased with their number one, I just pre-ordered a signed copy of their forthcoming album. And also, of course, the singer was absolutely NOT singing about girls - the lyrics are about his past relationships with members of his own gender. Go figure ;)
