Whew - just got around to these, sorry. Another eclectic selection; I love these journeys of musical discovery!

Let's get to it. The Neighbourhood's track is quite good, although not as good as Afraid. And you obviously know I love Olya Polyakova and Boy George (now there's an idea for a duet...).

I have always had a lot of time for the lovely Gabrielle; not sure this track is strong enough to get her back into the spotlight, however. Shame, it is pleasant enough. And everyone knows how much I love Erasure - but I am not particularly impressed by their decision to do an album of Xmas songs (FFS!). Gaudete is OK, but...pourquoi?

Ooo- that Midnight Boy's proud of his anatomy, isn't he? I love the fact hardly anyone bats an eyelid at the sight of him naked in the street, but hey, that's Stockholm. Shame about the sub-U2 song, though.

Lordy - Kamaliya and the nowadays creepy-looking Thomas Anders from Modern Talking have basically reproduced a song from his back catalogue. Holy 1983, Batman! Not a particularly inspiring production, though - maybe a remix might be better. Speaking of blasts from the past - how great is it to have Gala back? A jolly number as one might expect. Let's hope this is a precursor of a proper comeback!

Now to the best stuff - I can't understand why Electric Lady Lab have never managed to get the success and recognition that, for example, Robyn has managed. perhaps the similarities are too close? They are excellent, and "Open Doors" is another classy track. Love it.

However, the absolute corker here is definitely Gomi and Mila Jam. Absolutely fab, camp-as-tits fun. A winner by any standards!

Keep up the great work, sweetie!

Journeys of musical discoveries are the best ;)

I agree on the Neighbourhood track - it's their breakthrough single and came out before "Afraid". I love it but I still prefer the fantastic "Afraid". I have always quite liked Gabrielle, she is releasing a Best Of CD and I do like that song, although it's hardly a hit single (there is also a new version of "Dreams" out there which is quite good).

I am looking forward to the new Erasure CD, which should be with me after the weekend if my Amazon order gets here quickly. Oh, and I can assure you, after all my walking-naked-down-the-Reykjavik-mainstreet incidents, the public over here is also quite liberal towards public nudity ;) Oh, those Scandinavians...

The Gala track was a very nice surprise and I quite like the video as well. I also liked the OTT Thomas/Kamaliya video and yes, the song does sound very vintage Modern Talking.

Electric Lady Lab really should be much, much better known! Every song they have released has been a million times better then most of the mainstream chart music over the last couple of years - high quality dancepop that really deserves much bigger audience. Oh, and yes, of course we love "Masters Of The Universe" - no surprises there.

Glad you enjoyed these - our back and forth musical journeys have become one of the highlights of the whole blogging thing. 'Til next time...

I require video evidence of your "walking-naked-down-the-Reykjavik-mainstreet incidents".

;-)

PS Onwards and upwards with the "musical discoveries" blogs - I'll no doubt be doing another soon...

I'll make sure to take a camera crew along on my next stroll, a la Midnight Boy...
