This just SCREAMS summer!!! And a good excuse to post some Gloria Estefan, while we wait for more news on her upcoming album Miss Little Havana! One of my Gloria faves, this was a huge latin hit back in 1993 - it still sounds fabulous!
I meant to post these a few days ago - unreleased photos of Madonna trying on Jean-Paul Gaultier outfits for the legendery 1990 Blond Ambition tour. The photos will be included in a new book Gaultier is publishing later this year.
The wonderful Cocknbullkid has announced shewill release a selection of songs she wrote between 2005-2010.
"These songs aren't an indication of any new direction. They are songs written from about 2005 to 2010. My Adolesence , if you like. If you love it or hate it, I wrote it and it should be heard. I want you to have the full experience of the making of Adulthood".
Me likes! She previously stated she is already starting work on her next album as well.
Speaking of East 17 in the prevous post... they have reformed again, this time with a new singer replacing founding member Brian Harvey. The new singer is a guy called Blair Dreelan, who was a member of boyband 4th Ba5e. He will join original members Tony Mortimer, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell in the new configuration. The original lineup sold more then 20 million copies worldwide and had 11 Top 10 hits in the UK.
The group will release a new single, ’Secret Of My Life’, later this month and tour the UK.
East 17 had 12 Top Ten hits between 1992 and 1998 and reformed with all four original members in2006 for a one-off reunion show. After that they continued to tour as a three piece, with main songwriter Tony declining to take part. Most famously they played Glastonbury in 2009 as news of Michael Jackson's death filtered through the site.
Tour dates:
Glasgow 02 ABC2 (July 15)
Sheffield 02 Academy (16)
Liverpool 02 Academy (17)
Birmingham 02 Academy (20)
Oxford 02 Academy (21)
Bristol 02 Academy (22)
London 02 Academy Islington (26)
A look at the artwork for the upcoming Kim Wilde album, Snapshots.
Here is a look at the promo cover for the upcoming Kim Wilde album, Snapshots.
The sleeve of the album consists of photographs from Kim's life: from her childhood until very recently. Fans will recognise photographs from throughout her career, with promotional photographs, live photographs and even some personal snapshots. There are even some photos there that were submitted by her fans.
Snapshots does not have a release date in the UK (at least not yet), but you can already pre-order the album via Amazon Germany. It will be released on August 26th - I will post the tracklist when it has been revealed.
We do know three songs however - because Kim has already recorded videos for them: "Sleeping satellite" (originally by Tasmin Archer - Kim has been performing it during her recent live shows), "To France" (Mike Oldfield and Maggie Reilly) and "It's alright" (East 17).
I quite like the selections - especially "Sleeping Satellite". It will be fun to see the complete tracklist.
The new Blondie album didnt exactly set the charts on fire, charting this weekend on the UK album chart at #73.
The album was originally due for release in 2010, but difficulties with record companies delayed the release. Last march, Debbie Harry revealed that the band would be releasing the album themselves (i.e. without a record company) as part of a special "Collector's Pack" in conjunction with Future Publishing. The pack includes the album along with a special 132-page magazine charting the making of the album, the band's history and includes many archive photographs, four postcards, six badges and a poster. The Collector's Pack was made available in the UK from 1st June 2011 in in over 3000 non-traditional music retail outlets, and the normal release came out on July 4th, 2011. It is scheduled for release in thr US on September 13th, 2011. While the UK chart position is without a doubt a dissapointment, it is not a big surprise considering it was released with very little promotion and no backing by a major label. No matter - it is good to see them still making music!
I havent heard the album, but I quite like the first single (and the video!). It did not chart in the UK Top 100 though.
A look at their previous albums - a couple of legendery records here:
